Job summary:

We are looking for an energetic validation engineer to support our new and exciting Large Gas Engine Grid Code Compliance and Engine Controls processes at Caterpillar. You will have the opportunity to engage with some of the best and brightest engineers working on cutting edge technologies while leveraging our global collaboration partners to help them deliver to our customers. We will support you with our existing team of subject matter experts to ensure you are comfortable, confident, and ready to meet the challenges you may encounter.

You will have the latitude to be innovative in your assignments while you deliver on your goals. You will be empowered to lead change and make an impact across our organization the performance across the supply network. The role will include application of leading Engine Simulation tools such as dSPACE, Grid Controllers and Voltage Regulators.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with Development partners in converting Gas Engine Test Requirements to Test Vectors
  • Simplify Gas Engine Numerical Models to enable their integration on to Advanced Simulators
  • Execute Test Vectors on the Simulators and determine pass/fail results
  • Collaborate with development partners on the integration of the test results
  • Compile and preset test result to the extended engineering team

What you must have:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering, OR Electronics Engineering Technology AND 1+ year of Software Validation Experience
  • Good organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Hardware-In-Loop testing with dSPACE systems, Control Desk, Automation Desk and Configuration Desk, GT Power
  • Hands-on electronics lab skills – wiring, light fabrication with hand tools, soldering and basic use of electrical test instruments like multimeters, oscilloscopes etc.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with application communication protocols such as used on CAN Datalink, J1939 Communication, PGNs and SPNs
  • Knowledge of Vector CAN Software tools – CANape, CANoe or CANalyzer
  • Basic knowledge of internal combustion engine systems, their operation, relevant sensors and actuators
  • System modeling with Matlab and Simulink
