If so, we are looking for professionals with roadway design interest, who can support the Virginia Department of Transportation in creating roadway designs to keep Virginia Safe and moving!
VDOT is seeking an experienced detail-oriented individual to join our Richmond District Location & Design team to work under the direction of a responsible charge engineer, to develop estimates for Preliminary Engineering, Right of Way and Construction Phases using multiple tools and software. The position will develop engineering concepts in support of these applications incorporating common sense engineering within roadway, hydraulic, traffic and bridge disciplines. This position will manage budgets and schedules and will also provide technical support in the application of VDOT standards and policies while following established Quality Control procedures. You will utilize Microstation, GeoPak/OpenRoads and 3D design software for a wide range of transportation project concepts; and assist with coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring of prescoping project activities to ensure on time and on budget. The position must be able to coordinate and communicate well with internal and external stakeholders including consultants and localities. VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs
Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials
Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures
Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge
Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives
Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software
Ability to plan and schedule work
Skill in delivering exemplary customer service
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences

Additional Considerations

Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects
Experience using Microstation and other 3D roadway design software
Experience with cost estimation techniques and in developing budgets for projects
Experience in roadway and drainage design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials
Knowledge of highway construction management and inspection techniques, methods, procedures, practices, and terminology
Knowledge of mathematics to include algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering/Technology, Construction Technology, or related field desired

Special Instructions
Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
