The Publicist will plan, coordinate, and execute publicity campaigns for up to 85 new books a year and more than 5,000 backlist books. This position communicates the Press’s brand, mission, and message through regional, national, and global media outreach. The role includes but is not limited to creating publicity campaigns, working with and building relationships with the media, liaising with authors, and collaborating with the rest of the marketing team on broader marketing campaigns.

The Publicist will work with the marketing team to align publicity efforts with digital marketing, social media, exhibits, awards, advertising, and any other marketing tactics to help ensure that the Press’s books get the best-possible media attention.

The Publicist will maintain best practices in publicity, maintain and develop media contacts, help authors with their own promotional efforts, and ensure all publicity metadata is updated and accurate in the Press’s title management system. The Publicist will work to ensure that the Press, its books, and its authors are accurately, fairly, and prominently represented in media of all types.


Required Qualifications:

Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Associate’s degree, 2+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to multitask.

Working knowledge of standard office software and applications.

Experience working (or studying) with the media or in publicity.

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years’ experience in publicity and/or academic publishing (with an emphasis on marketing).

Working knowledge of FileMaker databases.

Marketing, communication, or media studies degree.
