Ophthalmic Medical Assistant/Surgery Scheduler, Ophthalmology

 

Position Highlights:
  • Position: Ophthalmic Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler
  • Location: Glenview, IL
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, in addition to rotating weekends

 

What you will do:
  • Schedule in office and OR surgical procedures for ophthalmology general, pediatrics, comea and external disease, retina, LASIK, glaucoma, neuro ophthalmology and oculoplastics
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, technicians/nurses, front office staff in and out of the department.
  • Educate patients effectively on LASIK, PRK, PTK, lasers used, pre and post-operative care and stay abreast on changes as pertaining to LASIK and services provided
  • Communicate effectively with patient about surgical costs, financial agreements, payment processes as pertaining to ocular surgical and non-surgical procedures
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of anatomy and physiology as pertaining to the eye, cornea and LASIK/PRK/PTK surgery.
  • Counsel and educate patients in the selection of lenses, such as multifocal, toric, or other upgraded lens options.
  • Creates ad-hoc financial reports as needed.
  • Works with NorthShore marketing and management to coordinate all marketing initiatives for the department.
  • Maintains oversight of all LASIK inquiries obtained through the department web page.

 

What you will need:
  • Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience required
  • Certification: CPR certification required
  • Experience: One year experience as a NorthShore Medical Group (PSA) Patient Support Associate in ophthalmology department or related experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs preferred. Epic knowledge and experience preferred.
