Overview:
We’re hiring a Network Security Architect for unclassified operations to develop solutions and plans for long-term growth and improved security of IT Systems! In this role, you’ll look for solutions to tackle sophisticated problems create improved enterprise class services to the lab while enabling and ensuring the most secure posture available. This position resides in the Enterprise Operations group, in the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations division in the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As a part of the team, you will also collaborate with other teams across the lab, to include groups within Information Technology, Classification Office, Cybersecurity, Lab Enterprise Risk, Lab Internal Audit, and others as appropriate.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Collaborate with multiple ITSD divisions to develop and improve sophisticated Information Systems while adhering to DOE, government, and local cyber security policies.
Handle Plans of Action and Milestones to closure for information systems under accreditation.
Provide guidance on policies and controls to support appropriate levels of risk, facilitate risk tolerance discussions and decisions, and recommend controls based on industry standards and practices. Raise questions/concerns/issues to more senior-level staff as required.
Provide guidance regarding configuration of cyber security common control requirements so that accreditation is retained.
Identify, create, communicate, and implement process engineering for technologies to create end-to-end service offerings.
Develop strategic plans to ensure the infrastructure meets the Lab’s evolving technical needs.
Examine departmental needs and set priorities for studies, system design, and implementation to create or update the company’s networking and infrastructure systems.
Find opportunities to automate processes for improved efficiency.
Apply continuous improvement methods to optimize system performance, security, and availability.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS in information technology, information systems, computer science, computer engineering, business, or a related field of study and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of proven performance in cybersecurity assessments, risk management, cybersecurity policy, and compliance, etc. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
Thorough understanding of industry standards and regulations including NIST 800-53, NIST Risk Management Framework, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF).
Knowledge of Enterprise Networking architecture and interaction with other systems.
Knowledge of secure operations, best practice, and system controls of enterprise network and enterprise infrastructure.
Strong analytical and organizational skills as well as problem solving capabilities to understand Cybersecurity risk and exposure, Enterprise Networking security, and securing Enterprise Infrastructure.
Working knowledge of privacy regulations and impacts.
Ability to work independently, meet delivery timeframes, and uphold high ethical standards.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Possess an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of cybersecurity policy implementation, Department of Energy (DOE) cyber security requirements, security planning, enterprise network architecture, enterprise infrastructure architecture, and basic interactions between complex Information Systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Network Security knowledge, including familiarity with Zero Trust.
Familiarity with IPv6 implementations.
Experience with federal IT compliance requirements.
Privacy management, cybersecurity, evaluating security controls, identifying control gaps, and mitigating measures along with a solid grasp of business practices and technology concepts.
Proven problem-solving skills and able to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to provide solutions.
Effective verbal communication and technical writing skills.
Familiarity with supporting and enabling Research and Development (R&D) institutions.

The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
