DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Enterprise Financial Systems (EFS), part of the Financial Affairs unit, oversees complex, mission-critical enterprise information technology systems of record. These systems include the Finanical Information System (FIS), CruzBuy, CruzPay/PPS, and the Effort Reporting System. The department provides ongoing analysis, production support and development. EFS department plays a key role in maintaining the operations, functionality, and providing training for campus systems. The mission of Financial Affairs is to provide high quality academic, research, and student support services to a campus that enrolls over 19,000 students, conducts over $100 million in sponsored research, and has expenditures of approximately $650 million annually. Financial Affairs is composed of the following major subunits: Campus Controller’s Office, Accounting Services (Accounts Payable, Extramural Funds, Payroll), Procurement Services, Student Business Services, and Enterprise Financial Systems.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Financial Information System (FIS) Manager, the Senior Analyst has the primary responsibility for providing customer support and analysis for the Financial Information System (FIS) with a focus on first tier level support, including maintaining and updating internal and user facing documentation. The Senior Analyst will be responsible for ongoing development and instruction of mandatory FIS User training; including course parameters, and materials, along with input in training requirements. The Senior Analyst also plays a key role in the analysis of org hierarchy submitted by the central Budget Office, and verification of scheduled operational processes. The incumbent is responsible for performing system analysis and troubleshooting, collaborating extensively with staff members in central and divisional offices to identify issues, and areas of improvement. In addition, the incumbent must work closely with the technical programming staff, and the third party vendor, to design, test, implement modifications and enhancements to the system.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Salary Information: Salary Range: $82,300/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary above the posted range. The salary shown above is the budgeted range the University reasonably expects to pay.

JOB DUTIES

60% – Financial Information System (FIS), Production and User Support

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of FIS, including the user interface, campus business rules, navigation, integrations with other systems, and reporting.
  • Provide help desk support and guidance for FIS system users, applying functional and technical knowledge of the system to resolve issues.
  • Assist in scheduling and testing for upgrades and other system events. Maintain documentation of all system operation processes.
  • Troubleshoot technical system problems. Identify local solutions and workarounds. Work with Senior Analyst team members, technical programming staff, and third party vendor to devise and implement solutions as needed. Create system test plans and test solutions.
  • Provide analytical support for daily operational jobs run out of FIS. This includes review, and analysis of job results, along with troubleshooting failures.
  • Advise users on FIS best practices. This will involve training methods, and working collaboratively with divisional staff and various staff members of Central Offices and will frequently involve applying knowledge of basic accounting concepts, along with problem solving skills.

30% – Financial Information System (FIS) Training and documentation

  • Maintain training materials for mandatory FIS training to keep training current with new system features
  • Schedule and present online training for campus users. Including assessment of user’s skill level
  • Develop and maintain new training curriculum to support online training
  • Prepare and maintain user facing documentation.

10% – Other Duties as assigned

  • Assist in other Enterprise Financial Systems projects as needed (this will include taking notes during meetings and maintaining internal Asana job tracking)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, preferably as they apply to institutions of higher learning, and fund accounting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with non-technically-oriented customers and technical staff
  • Skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems
  • Skills to quickly learn new technical skills from technical documentation and training
  • Ability to learn effectively
  • Demonstrated experience using standard personal computing software
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Comfortable working closely with others in a collaborative team-based environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities for accomplishing goals, work concurrently on multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Good analytical skills in problem identification and resolution, and decision making. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including presentation and training skills
  • Ability to design and improve processes, including working effectively with both system users and technical staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to develop programming specifications
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner Finance Module.
  • Strong project management skills to enable leading of projects.
