Environmental Planner 4

Under light supervision, gathers, compiles and analyzes land use, economic forecasting, population growth, and other related data to create basic to high complexity modeling and forecasting for Water Resources, Air Quality, Environmental Impact studies and plans.

Reviews existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary.

Performs field investigations, surveys, studies or other research in order to compile and analyze data on environmental impacts of prospective land use.

Collaborates with engineers, designers, etc. to research, analyze or resolve complex environmental impact-related design issues.

Reviews land use plans for compliance with applicable local, state and federal environmental and conservation laws.

Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary. Contributes to firm’s TKM by assisting in the development of white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc..

Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff.

Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.

Performs other duties as required.

May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline.

5 years of related experience Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Solid knowledge of principles and methods for large scale land use including the relative costs and benefits.

Solid knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.

Solid knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.

This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
