Coordinator, International Student Services – South Campus

 

FUNCTION: The function of the Coordinator is to provide specialized student support to international students. Provides academic and immigration advising services to meet the needs of the international student population. Problem solves a variety of complex immigration issues requiring comprehensive knowledge of immigration rules and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct the effective operation of the International Student Services unit to deliver services to students to achieve the agreed key performance measures.
  • Advise and assist international students on the complex requirements of immigration law and cross-cultural adjustment
  • Monitor and keep track of enrollment status of all F-1 students. Update and maintain SEVIS records.
  • Approve and process immigration documents related to passports, visas, employment authorization, changes in legal status, and transfer to and from other academic institutions
  • Plan and implement educational programs related to international services on all campuses
  • Prepare and manage International Student Services budget, payroll, office schedules, monthly, and annual reports.
  • Monitor retention interventions that address the characteristics and needs of a diverse population.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with SEVIS / Immigration / Homeland Security, outside educational institutions, internal departments and community agencies.
  • Serve on leadership teams and on college committees as requested and collaborate with various college departments.
  • Submit monthly and annual written reports to the Dean of Student Development.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies.
  • Understand USCIS rules and regulations regarding F-1 students, M-1 students, H1B students, H4B students, permanent residents, B1/B2 students, undocumented and others.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and the college’s policies and procedures related to TSI.
  • Must be knowledgeable about and be responsive to FERPA law and regulations.
  • Maintain processes and systems that improve the quality of customer support services.
  • Demonstrate working functional knowledge and use of Banner.
  • Must be knowledgeable about university transfer requirements, reverse transfers, and articulations agreements.
  • Must adhere to the highest principles of ethical behavior and strive to ensure the fair, objective, and impartial treatment of all persons with whom they deal.
  • Must use reasonable and informed practices to limit the liability exposure of the institution, its officers, employees, and agents.
  • Serve as student advocates to the faculty and administration.
  • Serve on college committees as requested.
  • Must possess outstanding customer service skills and have the ability to work with multiple projects and within deadlines.
  • Must be available for occasional nights and weekends activities.
  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to work well with faculty and staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills required.
  • Possess personal computer literacy and good organizational skills.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in international student services or higher education background.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in international student services, academic advising, minority / diversity concerns, and retention – preferably at Community College level.
  • Banner experience preferred.

Note: This position has limited opportunity for remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.
