The Ag Market Coordinator promotes local agricultural products and agri-tourism and will help represent Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) to the public, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and Cornell University; a familiarity with local agriculture products and retail food sales will be demonstrated.

The Ag Market Coordinator will assist the Ag Market Manager implement activities related to the grant funded Taste NY Market program at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley and at pop-up markets throughout the region. Primary responsibilities include educating the public on NYS products and points of interest, clerical/administrative support with day-to-day planning, coordination, routine management, straightforward inventory management, purchasing, operation of cash register, basic cash controls, operation and maintenance of inventory and Point of Sale software, transportation of inventory from warehouse to store, customer service, and general record keeping.

Continuous recruitment for part time, regular positions, 18-20 hours per week, non-exempt and benefits eligible. Weekends a must as well as opportunity for other shifts.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree and six months experience relevant to the role of the position or Equivalent Education and experience. GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferable program/functional experience is acceptable.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position: Must be able to drive personal or Association vehicle for pick-up and delivery of product from the warehouse to markets (hand-cart or dolly may be used for transportation purposes – no heavy equipment use required).
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to complete basic math functions in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to speak in public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools and methods, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
  • Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, sound professional judgment and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with multiple windows-based software and hardware technologies including Microsoft products such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Access, Word, Excel.
  • Experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and QR code generating in a professional setting for PR and marketing purposes.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance. Maintain a positive public image of CCE when dealing with the media, public, clients, staff, volunteers and committee members.
  • Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.
  • Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with electronic technology (e.g. video, audio, computers, etc.).
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Proficiency with programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel) and Internet-based communications.
  • Financial accounting and order tracking.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, think creatively, attend to details, and handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage inventory, purchase concession items, consumables and janitorial goods.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery – 15%
Utilizing existing resources, including guidance of CCESC Ag Issue Leader to:
  • Educate farmers/vendors in agricultural marketing practices, i.e. Retail Ready;
  • Provide information to producers on agri-marketing topics such as labeling, tracking sales and use of social media marketing;
  • Engage and interact with customers to educate them on the local food system, the Hudson Valley | Catskills food shed, NY Agriculture and agricultural related issues at the Taste NY Market in Central Valley and at other regional pop up markets as assigned;
  • Serve as Taste NY products subject matter resource;
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Management – 5%
  • Assist Market Manager and coworkers to provide guidance on facilities, equipment, and supplies maintenance and housekeeping needs;
  • Assist Market Manager when unavailable to interface with Simon Properties (property owner) and 3rd party contractors and contacts according to established procedures.
Coordination/Operation – 75%
  • Connect producers with relevant resources in response to inquiries for market participation.
  • Provide information to supervisor as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committee, Board and others as necessary.
  • Implement routine communication and marketing tasks to support program outreach as directed by Ag Market Manager including, annual reports, newsletters, legislative updates, social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, and Website), press releases, public relations and event marketing using established materials.
  • Maintain displays at the Taste NY Market in Central Valley and at pop up markets so they are ready and accessible for program participants.
  • May represent the Association at community events such as promotions, fairs, etc.
  • Learn and work with Revel inventory and POS software;
  • Receive incoming deliveries and manage logistics of off-site storage location, transport product to store from warehouse (driving is required), and pop up markets.
  • Support Ag Market Manager and coworkers in inventory management; monthly shrink records and physical inventory;
  • Assist Ag Market Manager in cash errands and off-site errands;
  • Support Ag Market Manager and coworkers for the timely delivery of inventory invoices and purchase orders in preparation for accounting department;
  • Following procedures purchase concession items, consumables, and janitorial goods;
  • Submit expense reports in a timely fashion for monthly reimbursement;
  • Providing routine clerical and retail market service.
  • Act in the capacity of cashier, stock clerk, utility clerk as necessary.
  • Provide routine support to Ag Market Manager to analyze electronic problems with Revel or mechanical issues with technology and equipment at market sites.
  • Coordinate repairs on programs or machinery with appropriate vendors. Equipment includes but not limited to: multi-line phone, cash register, interactive display and video monitor.
  • Collect evaluation data from program participants using tools provided.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
