About the Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies

The Judith Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies is an interdisciplinary program devoted to research and teaching on the problems of war and peace, arms control and disarmament, and more generally, instances of collective violence. Our focal areas include climate change and conflict; nuclear security; governance of emerging technologies; human rights, race, and gender.


The Opportunity

The Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) is seeking an Assistant to provide administrative support for PACS and other programs and initiatives within the Einaudi Center and the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs. This position is an opportunity to serve as the first point of contact for PACS and respond to inquiries from Cornell, local, national and international communities on behalf of PACS Program Manager and senior administrative staff. In this role, you will also:

  • Work collaboratively with and on behalf of a diverse, international constituency made up of faculty, academic visitors, staff, and students across multiple colleges, units, and programs.
  • Coordinate and implement virtual and in-person events (conferences, seminars), including the hosting of academic speakers.
  • Maintain relevant web content and social media, on-line events calendar and provide content for digital newsletters and other promotional materials.
  • Perform financial and travel transaction processing to support the needs of the program in compliance with applicable University or external policies.
  • Reconcile and audit monthly procurement card statements and financial
    transactions.
  • Provide event and office supply expense reports to the program manager.
  • Assist in the coordination and support of undergraduate and graduate research grants and fellowships, travel grants, and visiting scholar/fellow programs serving as the key liaison with various faculty and campus units.
  • Support PACS general office functions and supervise student office staff.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and is completely on-site. Typical work hours are 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. There may be occasional work hours outside of the typical work hours due to department events or activities.

What We Need

We are looking for a collaborative team member who is service-oriented, attentive, organized and culturally inclusive. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associate’s degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Demonstrate the aptitude to work independently and efficiently in a high-paced and demanding office environment while maintaining a positive, service-oriented attitude focused on excellence.
  • Display self-motivation, sound-judgement, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Juggle a variety of tasks at any given time.
  • Utilize creative problem solving and analytical skills managed with a “can-do” approach.
  • Assist with event planning.
  • Have strong technical skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite; familiarity with, or a strong aptitude for learning, University systems and content
    management systems (i.e. Drupal) desirable.
  • Be culturally sensitive and have the aptitude to work harmoniously with diverse constituencies is expected.

 

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

  • Knowledge/interest in peace and conflict studies would be helpful.
  • Event management experience.
  • Familiarity with financial transactions within the Cornell system
  • Experience using Mailchimp, Canva.
  • Familiarity with Zoom or other video conferencing software.
