Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria. It became autonomous with the passing into law of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 by the National Assembly and its assent by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Act not only empowers the Authority to regulate Aviation Safety without political interference but to also carry out oversight functions of Airports, Airspace, Meteorological Services, etc as well as economic regulations of the industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:  Participate in the routine inspection of Aerodromes facilities.  Collate and compile monthly/ quarterly aerodromes inspection reports from regional offices under supervision of a senior officer.  Participate in the review of aerodrome design drawings to ensure compliance with ICAO standards.  Compile routine inspection schedules.  Inspection/Certify Aerodromes facilities (Runways and Heliports).  Monitor the compliance of aerodrome operators in accordance with their operation’s manuals.  Monitor the implementation of corrective actions on observed aerodrome Facilities deficiencies  Appraise master plans for development of aerodrome to ensure compliance to Environmental Protection requirements.  Liaise with the state town planning authority to regulate infrastructural & industrial developments and possibly farming activities outside or within the aerodrome vicinity.  Regulate erection of high-rise structures that may constitute obstruction or threat to safety of flight operations.  Participate in waste management/control programme for airport and confirmation of physical characteristics of the aerodrome.  Appraisal of noise/air pollution control programme within the aerodrome vicinity.  Inspect Construction of Aerodrome and Heliport facility.  Participates in Aerodrome Certification Process.  Conduct aviation height clearance certificate for obstacles within and outside the aerodrome.  Other duties as assigned based on the general Oversight Functions.
