Position Overview:
Working onsite in our Danbury facility as an Optical Metrology Engineer you will be responsible for acquiring in-process and final optical figure and microroughness measurements on precision optics and optical systems. You will employ scientific and mathematical principles to collect and analyze data across processes and products. You will gain hands-on experience working on unique and challenging optical systems while learning from and teaming up with world-class technicians and engineers.
Major duties for this position include precision inspections and measurements, machine use and providing assistance to the team by developing and executing assignments within the Optical Manufacturing organization. Responsibilities include:
- Application of scientific and mathematical principles to collect data and perform analysis
- Measurement of optics in accordance with manufacturing documentation, process documentation and technical requirements
- Measurement of components and system integration of subassemblies
- Designing, assembling, and aligning test setups for various optical measurements
- Lead or participate, depending on experience, in designing experiments, preparing hypotheses to be tested, and developing models
- Ensure safe handling of in-process and deliverable hardware
Travel Requirements: Minimal
Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Optical Engineering, Applied Math, or Physics. Other degrees of similar exposure to the math and sciences will be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Computer Skills
- Ability to work safely on fragile, high value optics
- Knowledge of optic theory and practical optic testing (i.e., Interferometry)
- Working knowledge of manufacturing standards and practices
- Strong team player
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- College Lab Course work
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- 2 – 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment including working knowledge of optical blueprints and tolerances
- Ability to apply manufacturing skills in the production, inspection and test of optics and optical product
EHS/Environmental Requirements:
- Work spans across traditional manufacturing areas and laboratory environments
- Onsite presence is required
- Availability outside of nominal working hours when needed
