Job Description
The New York State Public Health Corps (NYSPHC) builds public health capacity to increase preparedness around public health emergencies, address health disparities exacerbated by such emergencies, and advance other important public health initiatives. The NYSPHC is a partnership between CCE of Schenectady County, Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS), Cornell University, and the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH).
NYSPHC Graduate Fellows advance various public health initiatives in our communities while helping to ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs. Graduate Fellows work with other staff, partner organizations, and sometimes volunteers to promote educational campaigns related to vaccinations, communicable diseases, public health emergency preparedness, and other public health issues as needed or assigned.

Master’s Degree.

Experience relevant to the role of the position.

Must be enrolled in the NYSPHC Fellowship Program and complete required trainings and certificates.

Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.

Use a system of ongoing involvement of citizens in the program development process which expresses the demographics of the community.

Interpret Association and University program direction to create educational programs.

Deliver public health educational programs utilizing a variety of methods to community organizations, individuals, businesses, and schools.

Apply subject matter expertise to create innovative lesson plans to deliver educational programs.

Occasionally teach existing educational program as defined.

Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

Represent CCE as a subject matter expert before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

May be actively involved in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver program.

Evaluate and utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies.

Ensure program delivery is within of the statewide and local Plan of Work and strategic plans.

Apply subject matter knowledge to evaluate educational programs.

Make recommendations for improvements.

Plan assigned programs.
-
Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program.

Manage assigned programs and volunteers (if assigned).

Monitor program to ensure that educational content conforms to research base, policies and objectives of the association and is research knowledge based.

May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.

Coordinate and schedule assigned programs.

Recruit program participants.

Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely manner.

Perform communications and marketing responsibilities – draft standard communications, impact statements, take photos, etc.

Maintain program records and data.

Compile program materials and inventory.

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
