Job Duties
VDOT’s Staunton District HR section is seeking a highly motivated PART-TIME Human Resources Consultant to join their team! As the qualified candidate, you will provide support to Senior Consultants in the key areas of Talent Acquisition, Data Management, Performance Management, Benefits, and Training/Development by performing front-line consultation with prospective and current employees on a broad array of HR topics. Specifically, you will:

Create and maintain computerized reports, working with different data types in order to obtain and craft information.
Consult with managers to create and develop advertisements and recruitment strategies.
Sourcing candidates and screening for qualifications.
Participate in interview panels, career fairs, and other public events.
Provide information regarding policies and procedures with focus on benefits and retirement.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions within established deadlines.
Enter and maintain a variety of HR systems, and work with subject matter experts to resolve discrepancies.

The position you are applying for is an Hourly (wage) position. Hourly (wage) employees are PART-TIME and may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1,500 hours within the wage employment year of May 1 to April 30. This position does not include health insurance, retirement, or any state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to gather, analyze data and prepare technical reports.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences and to make presentations and conduct meetings.

Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration.

Skill in operating office equipment and a variety of Microsoft Office Suite software.

Knowledge of state and federal laws.

Knowledge of HR practices and principles.

Ability to effectively implement and assist with the Human resources programs and functions.

Skill in providing good customer service.

Additional Considerations

A combination of training, experience, or education in Business, Human Resources or related field desired.

Experience in a variety of HR program areas.

PHR, CBA or SPHR Certified.

Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.   Telework eligibility will be in accordance with the Commonwealth’s Teleworking policy.  VDOT is an emergency response agency.
