Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking an experienced Engineer to fill a Senior Roadway Design position in the Culpeper district. The incumbent will utilize their engineering expertise to provide recommendations for the resolution of project issues, assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring engineering projects, and work with local government officials, consultants, citizens and the FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs. Job responsibilities will include designing, reviewing, managing, and producing right of way and construction roadway plans for a wide range of transportation projects using automated engineering and design software. Incumbent will serve as project manager to prepare quantities and estimates, develop and maintain schedules, monitor project activities, and prepare/present engineering data to various audiences. Will provide technical guidance on roadway design issues from the preliminary engineering process through construction and serve as responsible charge engineer. Why Choose VDOT:

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials.
Ability to read and interpret plans, contracts, specifications, and regulations.
Knowledge of the principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs.
Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
Ability to interact positively with employees, citizens and government officials.
Ability to coach and train others.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software.
Ability to plan and schedule work, and to coordinate and manage multiple, concurrent assignments.
Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Valid Professional Engineer’s license (PE) required.

Additional Considerations

Certification as a Project Management professional
Progressively responsible experience in roadway design and project management to include responsible charge engineering.
