Job Description

Join CDM Smith as a Transportation Design Practice Leader within our Transportation Services Group (TSG)! The Practice Leader is a global technical and sales role with responsibility for growing the business through technical advancement, innovative applications, and luminescence. As a “thought leader” at CDM Smith you will present visionary and influential views on Transportation Design within our practices both internally and to our clients. This includes all aspects of roadway, highway, freeway, bridge, and multimodal surface transportation design including conceptual, intermediate, and final design projects, design-build, engineering services during construction, and design-related technology and software. You will have and build strong relationships with DOT clients.

As the Practice Leader and visionary, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s growth by:

  • Advancing the practice through technical ingenuity, innovation, and growing top-line sales.
  • Positioning us technically, ahead of challenges being recognized in the marketplace.
  • Collaborating with the client service units, pre-positioning for major pursuits by identifying and showcasing our technical differentiators.
  • Partnering with sales and technical leadership to build relationships with DOT, other transportation agencies, and local clients, with an ability to work successfully across markets.
  • Leading technical luminescence activities including conference presentations, technical papers, and webinars.
  • Recruiting and retaining strategic technical talent and the best and brightest employees.
  • Developing, mentoring, and guiding technical specialists and discipline leaders within the practice and driving innovative ideas for research and development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 15 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations. Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).
