“Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orleans County has an opening for a part time Communications Coordinator working at the Albion, NY office.
The Communications Coordinator is a member of the administrative support team accountable for providing consistent, quality publications and related PR/marketing materials for the Association’s programs as well as areas of earned income. Responsible for the implementation of coordinated public relations, marketing, mass media efforts for individual programs and the overall Association. The Communications Coordinator may provide input to planning and strategic communications/marketing efforts. This position involves diversified duties requiring knowledge of marketing, public relations, desktop publishing and website software. The Communications Coordinator serves as part of the program support team under the supervision of the Executive Director to provide the association with graphics support services including design and layout work of all types of print media. The Communications Coordinator acts as liaison to all media contacts and sends all association press releases.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus 1 year transferrable program/functional experience may substitute for educational component
• Four years of experience in marketing, desktop publishing, communications, design or similar field.
• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
• Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
• Ability, experience, and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
• Demonstrated proficiency with multiple windows-based software and hardware technologies including Microsoft products such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, Publisher and Adobe products such as Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Ability to design and technically execute creative, dynamic and interactive user-friendly web pages.
• Experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and QR code generating in a professional setting for PR and marketing purposes.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual channels using traditional educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g. video, audio, web, etc.)
• Ability to work independently, organize workload, handle administrative detail, work under pressure and establish priorities according to Association requirements.
• Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance. Maintain a positive public image of CCE when dealing with the media, public, clients, staff, volunteers and committee members.
• Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. • Demonstrated marketing and design abilities for effective branding and communications
• Ability to generate creative and innovative approaches to marketing a community-based not-for-profit organization’s educational image and products.
• Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement and evaluate informal and formal marketing and public relations programs addressing diverse audiences.
• In-depth knowledge of marketing and media methods.
• Demonstrated ability to create and maintain complex and unique databases of information.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administrative Direction – 5%
• May provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing efforts for the Association and any assigned grants and grant activities.
• Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts.
• Make recommendations to supervisor and/or Executive Director for strengthening and improving the marketing plans.
• Plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.
• May provide input into communications budgeting and feasibility of program communication goals.
Administrative Management – 25%
• Provide substantial moderately complex administrative tasks to guide the implementation of communications strategies, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies and Federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.).
• May provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization.
• Manage marketing of Cornell Cooperative Extension and assigned grants appropriately in the various existing directories of organizations and agencies.
Administrative Coordination/Operation – 65%
• Provide substantial moderately complex administrative tasks in implementing communication and marketing plans including, annual reports, newsletters, legislative updates, social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, and Website), press releases, public relations and event marketing and fund-raising marketing/communications.
• Coordinate marketing/relations for the County Fair and Associations other earned income streams (storage, catering, and grounds rentals).
• Coordinate with Executive Director and program staff to design, develop, and maintain association website and association social media including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, etc. based on established association policy.
• Support educator staff with preparation of program brochures and fliers as well as general Association brochures and displays with Executive Director and/or supervisor guidance. Act as production and marketing resource for staff.
• Work closely with the Executive Director and program staff to create and distribute CCE’s annual report and other key marketing and reporting documents.
• Maintain Association exhibits and provides coordination for displays.
• Represent the Association at community events such as promotions, fairs, etc.
• Under guidance of supervisor and Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.
• Under guidance of supervisor, accomplish financial goals related to communications, primarily focused on budgeting.
• Establish and maintain a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events.
• In coordination with staff, respond to general requests for information about CCE programs, activities and grants in the community.
• Create media opportunities and direct press inquiries and opportunities to appropriate staff.
• Coordinate sponsorship for the County Fair.
• May provide backup support to the receptionist/administrative assistant as needed for front desk coverage, mailings, postal machine, program registrations and similar duties.
• May provide training in use of office machinery, including postal machine, copiers, printers etc.
• Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
• Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
• Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
• In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
• Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
• Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
• Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc.
• Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

POSITION DETAILS
Expected Weekly Hours: 20 hours per week (Part-Time)
Hourly Wage: $19.00 to $23.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
Location: Based from the Albion, NY office
Remote Status: Remote work is not available.
