Job Description

Position Overview:

  • This position requires an individual that can provide expertise in High Reliability, Military and Space Level M&P and Contamination Control Engineering.
  • This position is responsible for planning, defining, and implementing M&P and Contamination engineering requirements to ensure design integrity and hardware robustness in direct alignment with customer expectations.
  • Execution of appropriate analysis, processes and procedures is required to follow State-of-the-Art-Electro-Optical Space Flight Systems through material selection, specification generation, procurement team interaction, and item qualification.
  • The individual will work as a member of several Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to implement M&P and Contamination requirements which may include standard documentation in the form of Facility and Product level contamination control plans, process specifications, part/material selection, qualification definition, materials database management, and Supply Chain guidance.

Responsibilities:

Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Design, research, analyze and implement materials and their related fabrication processes to optimize their use in engineering designs
  • Provide expertise in preliminary design reviews and critical design reviews with the customer including materials selection and application in orbital environments
  • Focus on particulate, molecular, and chemical contamination, chemical analysis and processes for contamination detection in an In-House materials testing laboratory
  • Provide knowledge of contamination control in design and manufacture, contamination testing and implementation, cleanroom design and maintenance
  • Compliance with Program and Facility contamination control requirements
  • Provide knowledge of polymeric materials selection, usage, processing, qualification and procurement
  • Responsible for evaluating and developing non-metals materials and processes with a focus on elastomers, sealants, adhesives, and polymeric matrix coatings for use in High Reliability application
  • Perform internal/external customer briefings through effective and detailed In-Person/Remote presentations
  • Review, create, and approve drawings/documents detailing material procurement, qualification, and application
  • Review and approve subcontractor procedures
  • Oversee/perform testing in a Reliability Laboratory as required (FTIR, NVR, Instron, Mechanical Testing)
  • Knowledge of government and industry material specifications, quality assurance codes, and standards
  • Support root cause efforts to perform failure analysis on components, sub-systems, and systems

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry

Experience Required:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

EHS/Environmental Requirements:

  • Able to lift/move computer and printer equipment
  • When working in lab must wear eye protection, lab coat, gloves, and other PPE as required
  • Working with chemicals and solvents
