Job Description
As a Construction Specialist you will support the Project Manager and other team members as necessary during project proposal development and project management phases. The following duties will be performed in any combination of time based on the type of construction project and where the project is in the construction lifecycle:
During the Pursuit phase the Construction Specialist assists project team with overall proposal development reviewing and/or preparing deliverables, assisting with project schedule, total project costs and general conditions. Review Request for Proposal documents to fully understand the scope and requirements of the project. Participates in pre‐bid site visits. Contacts subcontractors and suppliers for current pricing and bidder interest. Develops simple to moderately complex scopes of work. Evaluates increasingly complex proposals for scope, schedule, and budget and develops bid tabs for review. Perform basic to moderately complex estimating tasks including performing quantity take‐offs, creating material price lists, and researching labor, material, and equipment costs. Develops preliminary baseline schedules for engineering and construction, including developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and basic activity logic ties and dependencies. Develops General Conditions based on requirements specified in the bidding documents including required staff, temporarily facilities, security and safety measures.
During the Planning and Execution phase the Construction Specialist will assist with project set-up, Work Plan development, Purchase orders, Subcontracts, Change Orders, and Application for Payment. Ensures timely arrival of parts, equipment, construction materials, and installation with field personnel and vendors. Prepares and reviews submittals of increasing complexity. Issues construction documents and layouts to field crews and answers questions. Completes requests for information (RFI). Develops agendas, meeting minutes and attends project meetings with project team, subcontractor and/or the client/owner. Works with the project controls team to update portions of the project schedule. Supervises and directs overall project activities of basic to moderate complexity as assigned. Provides technical, field, and site administration direction to field personnel. Prepares and interprets specifications and drawings for foreman and superintendents. Performs surveying functions and verifies final locations and elevations. Assists design engineers and labor/subcontractors to determine solutions for unexpected site conditions. Prepares project scheduling and financial analyses and spreadsheets of moderate complexity for routine and non‐routine project reporting. Generates reports and data for subcontract change requests, bid comparisons, new work item estimates, and resolution of potential schedule/work problems. Conducts or assists with conducting field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used. Verifies quality of workmanship, quality/quantity of materials used, and compliance with plans, specifications, estimates and applicable codes and regulations. Documents deficiencies and deviations from plans. Maintains and updates Quality Control (QC) reporting for project sites.
Works with Health & Safety professionals to identify Definable Features of Work (DFOWs). Develops Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and portions of the Health and Safety Plan. Evaluates safety performance metrics of potential subcontractors and vendors as part of the procurement process. Helps complete Daily Job Reports (DJRs) including health and safety information and craft labor hours as part of the health and safety reporting process. Participates in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities on project sites. Communicates concerns or near misses to project manager.
Depending on project needs and after appropriate training, works with project manager and VDC team to develop project capability needs and VDC plan. Deploys and supports construction technology and virtual design application on appropriate project sites. Assists in managing the modeling efforts and deliverables to solve construction issues including leading field teams through the design model and schedule sequence, running quantity takeoffs from the model, flying drones and analyzing drone data, confirming clash detection reports and similar items. Assists in facilitating solutions through collaboration with the design and project teams via VDC, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and traditional collaboration methods. Performs other duties as assigned.
During project Close-out the Construction Specialist will work with the Project Manager to complete all contract required deliverables and follow company close out procedures. Close all subcontract and purchase orders. Develop final record drawing and as-builts. Ensure all close out submittals are documented and approved. Work with Team to complete final inspections, complete punch list and ensure client satisfaction.
Long term travel will be required for this position.
