This position will serve as the 140 LLL Maintenance Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. The 140 LLL Maintenance Coordinator will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and upkeep of the buildings, grounds, utilities, roads and program areas at the CCE Nassau facilities at 140 Living Learning Laboratory. Additional locations to assist in similar maintenance responsibilities may include the East Meadow Farm, and the administrative building in the Special Activities Center (SAC) House. Oversee construction and renovation projects, operational services, security, inventory control and participate in maintenance and construction contract negotiations. Diagnose problems or oversee troubleshooting work. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal regulations. Manage assigned budget and monitor expenses. Direct and supervise seasonal maintenance staff. Will deal with emergencies that arise on the property. Will work a non-traditional work schedule as per the needs of the facilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role the position.
  • Experience working with engineers, architects, carpenters, masons, plumbers and electricians.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends and be on call for emergencies.
  • Physical ability to do heavy lifting, shovel snow, and move/transport supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g. fork lift, skid steer, back hoe) on an infrequent basis, as appropriate to facility needs.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment, such as lawn mower, snow blower, etc.
  • Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the work place.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage people.
  • Strategic, operational and technical management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in Construction Management, Construction Science, Construction Engineering, Facilities Management or Business Management.
  • Six years’ work-related experience – relevant to the role of the position.

Position Details:

This is an exempt, full-time position, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $58,500.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance and NYS retirement.
