Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Advanced EV Development Global Supply Chain Manager will craft our world class west coast powertrain supply chain efforts. This GSM will be responsible for developing and executing global sourcing strategies for annual spending in critical powertrain areas, development world class costing tools, complete expert negotiations in raw material and business partnerships, and drive a new way of approaching part sourcing.
You will be working on a small high performing team that will have a high interaction and collaboration quotient to deliver fully integrated EV vehicle systems that achieve aspirational targets associated with cost, weight, efficiency, and exceed operational tolerances required to deliver the ambitious project scope. Engineering trade-offs are minimized by the development of solutions and innovations to minimize settling for an inferior product or solution. This team will be highly technical in nature and will come from engineering and data centric team environments that have had to deliver the holistic end to end engineering life cycle from ideation through design, engineering, test and ensuring efficient industrialization. Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or Operations Management.
- 6 + years experience in supply chain management or commodity management.
- Fundamental understanding of EV Powertrain concepts and commodities.
- Experience bringing creative negotiation skills and out of the box strategy.
- Knowledge of high-volume motor manufacturing processes, materials and supply chains.
- Strong relationship management skills with suppliers which include scorecards, issue resolution and reviews.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s Degree
- Hands-on experience building and launching highly effective supply chain methodology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

What you’ll be able to do:
- Develop costing tools co-built with engineering teams that utilize ground-up and physics-based assumptions to derive optimal and lowest cost commodity and part modeling.
- Responsible for total cost management of EV motor components (e.g., rotors, stators and other peripheral components).
- Enable optimization across the enterprise by working with the engineering teams to make strategic engineering choices that are informed by the current market trends, material sourcing options and total vehicle system trade-offs.
- Apply the above tools in world class negotiating tactics that provide superior commercial power over competitors sourcing approaches.
- Merge business strategies and engineering understanding to empower the business relationship both internally and externally
- Define early outreach strategies inclusive of decoupling prototype and production hardware commitments
- Drive internal make vs. buy costing studies with internal advanced manufacturing groups to further elevate commercial purchasing power
- Understand the engineering timing plan at detail to strategically time decisioning of commercial agreements where we can keep the negotiating power in Fords court longer. For example, sourcing time on a production stamping equipment independently to the tool that cut the part
- Work with ADVEV GSM partners to redefine the purchasing software and other requisition tools that are used to manage suppliers, part revisions, requirements, documentation, agreements, etc.
- Own RFI and RFQ’s ensuring agreements, NDA, Terms and Conditions, PPA and other related areas are in place.
- Identify and drive key commercial partnerships to allow for further commercial pricing reduction and independence around geopolitical events. Such as identifying business partnerships with steel mills, or mines to secure raw material
- Foster a new GSC culture and approach to enable the best commercial pricing
- Provide an expert knowledge and history of preferred vendors and cost expectations for competitive traction motor designs and while monitoring global trends and technology roadmaps.
- End to end and total powertrain bill of materials mindset and philosophy to expand this scope across all powertrain components.
