Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting postdoctoral fellowship in the pharmaceutical industry? Are you passionate about in vitro disease modelling and have an interest in learning more about oligo-related therapeutics? If so, this postdoc role could be an exciting opportunity for you to consider.

As a postdoctoral researcher at GSK, you will be focused on addressing the critical R&D challenges that have been selected as cutting-edge science. Your experience will be accompanied by tremendous support at GSK with the opportunity to work for daily collaborations with world-class scientists. In this project, you’ll be responsible for driving a project focused on NASH-related genes amenable for oligo-related therapeutics.

This postdoctoral researcher will drive a project focused on identification of NASH-related genes and isoforms amenable for RNA splicing modulation. The postdoc in this role will characterize human cell models (including cell lines, primary cells) using standard assays and ‘omics-based approaches to identify candidate genes with nonsense-mediated RNA isoforms. From this, the postdoc will then execute target validation experiments including genetic perturbation to identify a prioritized target for a subsequent screen to identify oligonucleotide hits for target up-regulation. This is a project that will allow the postdoc to participate in driving and executing cutting edge research and technology in advanced cellular models and RNA therapeutics at GSK. This postdoc will gain practical experience including performing research in an industrial setting, partnership with subject matter experts at GSK to enable project success, exposure to project management, and glimpses into the drivers behind decision making in the pharmaceutical industry.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

  • Be part of cutting-edge science to advance GSK’s mission ‘to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together’.

  • Accelerate your post-doctoral research with GSK’s extensive R&D engine.

  • Bridge the gap from target identification to medicine for patients in-need by leveraging GSK’s: Tools, Technologies, Libraries, Samples, People, Knowledge Base, & Training programs.

Postdoctoral research will be focused on addressing the critical R&D challenges that have been selected as cutting-edge science and are optimal areas of science for post-doctoral training.

Your Postdoctoral experience will be accompanied by tremendous support at GSK with the opportunity for daily collaborations with world-class scientists. GSK is committed to providing each postdoc with a mentor who will be focused on providing a comprehensive training program and are expected to nurture skills that will enable postdocs to become independent scientific investigators.

Postdocs are actively encouraged to publish and present their research at internal and external meetings and participate in the GSK R&D postdoc community, which will include scientific and social programming.

Annual Report 2021

We’re combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated.

In 2021 we delivered four major product approvals: Cabenuva for HIV, Jemperli for endometrial cancer, Xevudy for COVID-19 and Apretude, our new long-acting medicine for HIV prevention.
