Job Duties
VDOT is seeking motivated professionals in the Wise area who are driven by performance, stewardship, and a passion to #keepVirginiamoving! In the role of Contract Monitor, you’ll collaborate with our Residency team to oversee the work of VDOT contractors. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and documenting all stages of maintenance and construction activities to ensure they meet contract requirements and specifications. Core Responsibilities of this position include: Contract Monitoring Documentation and Communication Performance Monitoring Emergency Operations Inventory Data Management and Control Equipment and Asset Maintenance Materials Testing and Environmental Compliance This position is Essential to Emergency Operations As defined by VDOT Department Memorandum (DM) Number: 17-1 – Emergency Operations and Traffic Management, VDOT is an emergency operation agency. As such, this job is essential to emergency response operations and expected to work in these situations. Report to work when called. Maintain communications with supervisor. Keep abreast of weather forecasts for duty readiness in reporting. Be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all kinds of weather.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, analyze and interpret contracts, road and bridge specifications and associated regulations in highway maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of roadway construction, maintenance, and repair techniques, practices and equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Skill in the use of computers and software programs.
Knowledge of inspection procedures, as well as materials testing and acceptance.
Ability to monitor and oversee the work of others.
Safety shoes required.
Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare timely and accurate reports.
Ability to obtain Work Zone Safety and Flagging certification, Erosion and Sediment Control certification, ACI Concrete, and VDOT materials certifications within 6-12 months of employment.
Additional Considerations
Possession of valid CDL and DOT medical card.
Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Safety.
Skill in the use of automated construction management and financial software.
A combination of training, experience, or education in Construction or related field desired.
American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Level I (CCWA) OR WACEL Concrete I Certification.
Asphalt Field Level I.
Experience in highway, structures, or equipment maintenance or construction.
Experience in roadway maintenance, construction and equipment operations.
Flagger.
DEQ: Responsible Land Disturber (RLD).
Experience monitoring and inspecting contractors or overseeing the work of others.
CPR with AED, Standard First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Combined Course.
Soils & Aggregate Compaction.
Possession of Work Zone Safety and Flagging certification, Erosion and Sediment Control certification, ACI Concrete, and VDOT materials certifications.
