Onsite/Remote: Onsite Position

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.

Your Responsibilities


As a Sr. Combustion Engineer – Spark Ignition for John Deere Power Systems & John Deere Engine Works located in Waterloo, Iowa, you will:


  • Lead testing and support development of Spark Ignition combustion technologies using a combination of modeling work and test work of internal and external projects.
  • Define combustion system requirements and contribute definition of component requirements including interface specifications, document trade-offs and conclusions, and maintain database of solutions.
  • Contribute to new design concepts, advanced test methods, process improvements, and measurement capabilities.

What Skills You Need


  • Technical understanding of combustion, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, combustion analysis, and modeling techniques.
  • Technical understanding of internal combustion engine performance and emissions characteristics
  • Practical experience testing spark ignition engines: development, troubleshooting, dynamometer test laboratory hardware, and emission measurement equipment.
  • Basic understanding of engine exhaust catalyst systems and their interaction with engine performance.
  • Working understanding of GT-Power, Matlab, Simulink, Design of Experiments techniques, and combustion analysis tool sets.
  • Ability to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas to coworkers, organize test plans, and provide testing direction to test engineers & dyno operators
  • 7 years of Spark Ignition engine development

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Prior experience in conducting single cylinder engine experiments for combustion development
  • Advanced degree or research in spark ignition combustion




Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Masters degree in engineering or 7 years of experience in spark ignition combustion development
