Manager, System Media Relations and Storytelling

What you will do:
As Manager, Public Relations at NorthShore – Edward Elmhurst Health, you will partner with clinical and marketing colleagues to drive communications strategies that support growth across our key service lines, highlight initiatives and experts and increase patient engagement. You’ll translate your curiosity and desire to help create a safe, seamless and personal healthcare experience into informative, inspiring communications and storytelling and help position the organization as a national model for community-connected healthcare. You’ll also play a key role in public relations measurement and monitoring, helping ensure teams have the latest information they need and focus aligns with strategy.
- Serves as a key spokesperson and liaison, conducting national, trade and local proactive and reactive media relations in support of clinical service lines and patient engagement and playing a significant role in driving external storytelling.
- Engages media and stakeholders through creating content for owned PR channels, including newsroom, social media, paid content, blogs, website and fact sheets.
- Pays close attention to news and trends and regularly has feet on ground interacting with team members, patients and media to capture stories, content and feedback and proactively identify opportunities.
- Assists in communications around issues and crisis, as needed, bringing the unique lens and perspective of this role.
- Assists with PR measurement and monitoring, dashboards and PR reporting.
- Assists with messaging and development of engaging patient-facing communications, including customer messaging points, when needed, signage and emails, as well as on-site events and activations.
What you will need:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a related field
- Certification: N/A
- Experience: Four (4) years of experience in the public relations, journalism or communications-related field. Understanding and prior use of media/PR/social media measurement and reporting tools and technologies preferred.
- Unique or Preferred Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a variety of formats.
- Strong media relations experience, including serving as a spokesperson, relationships with key local and national print, broadcast and online media.
- Enthusiastic storyteller and empathetic listener with insatiable curiosity and ability to inspire and inform across multiple communications channels and mediums.
- Strong presence of mind, good judgment, problem solving and analytical skill.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and make decisions under tight deadlines.
- Understanding of and interest in key healthcare issues and trends.
- Ability to interpret and translate complex information into relevant, impactful communications.
- Strong executive presence and ability to work with influential, high-profile leaders.
- Strong project management skills, including cross-functional collaboration.
- Flexibility with the ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Candidate must have a car and willingness to travel between locations as job requires.
