Job Summary/Basic Functions
The EKU Department of Manufacturing Engineering is seeking a full-time Industrial Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for the machine shop, plastics/composite’s labs, wood shops, and project spaces – maintaining the equipment, ensuring safety, assisting professors, supervising students and student workers, and ensuring the space is organized and clean.
Minimum requirements are a High School Diploma and 2 years of related experience.
Preference will be given to Individuals certified in welding, machining, and/or CNC programing with experience in an academic machine-shop environment. Top candidates will be able to discuss and demonstrate use of manual lathes, mills, and other common machine-shop equipment with regards to tool speeds, feed rates, and desired finishes.
Candidate must be able to work with undergraduate college students as well as high-school students as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: 2 years of related experience
Licensure & Certifications: Welding (preferred)
Machining (Preferred)
CNC Programming (Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:

Job Duties:
- 23.75% – General machining of various metals using common machine tools and processes. – (Essential)
- 23.75% – Routine maintenance of common machine tools. – (Essential)
- 23.75% – Familiarity and ability to assist with welding operations. – (Essential)
- 23.75% – Organization of lab spaces, maintaining safety equipment and PPE, and ensuring safety protocols are followed by all. – (Essential)
- 5% – Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. – (Essential)
